Hello

I've lived on a farm ever since I was a kid. It's always been my summer job, afterschool job, you name it. I've never had a real job because I've always been busy here working on stuff on the farm with my dad.

It wasn't really a "job", because I wasn't technically an employee or anything and I didn't get a paycheck. It kept me from getting an actual job though because I was needed on the farm.

I'm 22 now and I'm eager to get out of here and start living my own life.

Any tips for this? Is this something valid to put on a resume? I hope so, because if not, I have no experience at all to put on a resume and I am 22 years old. Laughing

Yes, put it on your resume!

I just came home from three very good job interviews [with final ones coming up next week]. My dad has his own business so I have always worked. It was some of the experiences I had working for him and what I could relate to the jobs I applied for that won me those second interviews. One man commented that a work ethic like what you and I have [we were raised to work, not play] doesn't exist much anymore and can be a valuable commodity. I was the first of 40 interviews that day, and after 10 minutes he knew I needed to come back for a whole day. They really are not supposed to decide until the end of the day, but what I could tell him about working for my parents made a big difference!

Think about all of the roles you have had to play on the farm: did you help manage paperwork, help with sales/purchase, responsible for maintaining equipment, etc??? All of those skills are very important and are as relevant to a job search, maybe even more so, than having punched a time clock somewhere....
