To Whom it May Concern of IPA Personnel, Knox RC Wantirna::
I am writing to apply for the position of Data Entry officer that was advertised on the blah.
I believe myself to be highly suited to this position, for a number of reasons.
Firstly, the advertisement stated that applicants must have a typing speed of at least 8000 KPH. I have a typing speed of over 12000 KPH, which more than satisfies this.
Secondly, I bring with me a high level of skills in many areas of computer usage, which I believe would enable me to be an even more prodictive worker in this position. My skills range from a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel, ability to use Windows, Mac and Linux operating environments.
My proficiency in many areas of IT can be seen from my employment history, from my first job at 16 as a webmanager for a website, to my latest position as assistant and typist to Professor Jo Blogs. I have also made frequent use of computers during my studies for a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University, and in addition have taken subjects in computer programming.
I believe that my above mentioned qualifications make me an excellent match for this position with your company. I have attached a copy of my resume for your review. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience to discuss my candidacy in further detail.
Yours Sincerely,
Blah

I am extremely unsure when it comes to writing cover letters.
It would be great if I could have some constructive criticism/feedback.
Thanks. |

This is the right basic approach, but there's nothing here to say "data entry". If this job is for a major datastream, your letter says you've got good intentions, but not much in terms of an actual CV entry showing you've done that sort of work.
You must have worked on a database at some time in some form, with a kph like that. The best shot here is to prove your ability to work with data.
Watch the paragraphs, spelling and layout too, nothing serious, but there are are few trivial things you probably don't want on your letter, the sort that drive you up the wall after you put in the application. |
