|
|
I would firstly like to thank this forum and the site in general for allowing me to create a very good CV which has got me quite a bit of interest from agencies as well as a couple of job interviews in my search for a new job as I look to re-locate. I did get quite a bit of positive feedback from the interviews that I did attend also even although I didn't land the job but it's thanks to the good advice here that I have at least given myself the best possible chance.
My question is whether to include self studying on my cv under the education and training section. On my travels I have found some key areas that I don't have any qualification in that go hand in hand with the jobs in which I am applying so I usually have about 3 out of 5. I decided to go for the full thing and buy books in which to learn starting from the basics and then eventually onto the more advanced material when I have a sound understanding of the basics. As I am not enrolled on a course to do this, is it acceptable to put this onto my cv? I do plan to sit an exam on both of subjects concerned at the end of it all when I feel ready.
Thanks again for all the good advice |

If this self-study provided you with solid information that you can use on your CV and that information is directly relevant to the position you are seeking, then, yes, include it.
One way you can include it is to list the knowledge or skills as a block of "specialized skills" or "specialized knowledge" and not list where the information came from. Unless an employer asks specifically about it (and you'll be in the interview by that time), they will assume it came from your employment history.
Good luck. Great question.

Or you can try adding this information in a personal achievements area, of course. Usually, it's good to specify self study, but it's not good to place it in the education area, because it might be considered offensive.
If the domain you have been self studying is relevant to the job you are applying for, then mention it and you can immediately list the specialized skills acknowledged right after.
