Hi-
I'm soon to be a Senior in high school, and I need some help choosing a good career path and major in college. I want to find a job that is interesting, but also lets me use my talents. To help you help me, I'll give you a little info about myself. I'm a good student, and I make straight A's. I'm also in the top 5% of my class. I like all math, but I especially like trigonometry. I also really enjoy physics and how things interact, but I don't like other sciences (bio/chem). As far as my personality, people say I'm witty and I can usually think quickly. I like to have fun and I laugh a lot. (This is starting to sound more and more like a personals ad...) I also like to work outdoors. I guess what I'm looking for is a job that will let be use my intelligence, but won't trap me indoors behind a computer. People always tell me I need to get a typical "smart guy" job, but the only ones I can think of will trap me inside. I need to move around a lot because I get restless after sitting in one place for too long.
Thanks a lot for your help in advance, and I hope I can get this figured out soon! |

WOWIE!! A smart kid!! GOOD JOB!! This is so wonderful to see you excelling so fast at such a young age and seeking advice ahead of time to find the right career opportunities for you!
Here's a bit of further advice:
1) Do something you will want to do for the rest of your life.
2) Do something you like that there are actually real-live jobs out there in YOUR AREA where you want to live so you do not have to move.
3) Make sure that this field has a tremendous amount of growth in the next 5-50 years which will be your future working years. You want a field that not just pays well, but one that won't have you replaced by some machine 10 years from now.
4) Engineering may be a good one for you. Go do some searches in the search engines and so forth.
5) Learn as much as you can about computers as well. Learn programming as you should be good at that, and you can make like many thousands a year as a programmer. Having a computer field will go with just about any other field and then you'd have that PLUS some math-science - brain related job. |
