Hi All,

I am writing a letter of recommendation for a colleague, but have no idea where to start I was thinking of asking her to right it herself and then Ill just sign. But this colleague has worked for us, for 10 years and this approach seems very impersonal.

May be you can let her write a draft, then you can modify as necessary.... etc.

It's definitely not the easiest thing to do, but there is a pretty good guide at http://resume.monster.com/articles/recommendation/. I would just recommend stating over and over again the positive characteristics that the person has. You may not know every single project or accomplisment the person has, but if you can state that the person is an honest, trustworthy, hardworking, and dedicated worker, and give examples as to when you personally saw these traits, then I think you will have a pretty good letter of recommendation to give them. Good luck!
