There are many students out there just like you who are in the last lap of their college and have many question marks in their heads:
If you can see here, the emphasis is not on the job, but on the major – which is to a certain extent warranted from a fresher because until now that was the only focus of your life. However, now you need to change that attitude, and broaden your outlook. This is, after all, about the rest of your life, your hopes and dreams. Seeking a major and freshers employment match in order to apply for a job can be a totally counter-productive approach. This is not to say that there is no connection between the major and freshers employment. Rather, as you would think, employers do seek freshers by their majors. However, the greatest preference would always be given to the fresher who can perform a perfect marriage between their skills and the inherent qualities that their major would entail. Remember, this is about matching jobs to people, as well as matching people to jobs. The best fit is always going to be a good mix of talent, qualifications, and enthusiasm. The Major And Freshers Employment Connection Come graduation and every student thinks of employment. The better the college/ business school the higher the expectations; and the more complicated the world outside looks. Most students think is that there is a “magic list” out there for freshers employment, which would match perfectly to what they majored in – and getting such a job would be a piece of cake. The realty however, is that there is no such magic list. You need to create the magic list yourself by correctly connecting your major and freshers employment opportunities. How do you do this?
If you look at it, this looks pretty simple. However, it takes a lot of practice for a student to get out from the narrowness of vision that the match of his/her major and freshers employment entails. Most students do not look at the job and their capability to match the requirement; they rather see the job matching their major – which is a very narrow approach and often a highly inadequate one. The risk is categorizing yourself in terms of your qualifications, and leaving out your other skills, interests, and preferences. That can lead to career dissatisfaction, and even missing good job and career opportunities.
Counseling can help, and many colleges and some employers can be a big help. But it’s your call. You’re the one in the best position to decide what you want out of your life and your career. Remember, the best candidate for any job is he/ she who can mold his/ her knowledge and skills-set to the requirements of the job. |
