Overview of Engineering Jobs

There are several types of engineering jobs from chemical engineers, electronic engineers and agricultural engineers, to name but a few. If you plan on working as an engineer, you should have some basic skills:

  • Creativity and innovative thinking abilities.
  • Some technical, medical or scientific skills and knowledge.
  • The ability to organize information, people, activities and work space.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • The ability to manage projects and work with teams.
  • Analytical thinking skills.
  • Excellent planning skills.
  • You must be able to interpret data and drawings.

Working as an engineer also entails being responsible and having an eye for detail since you must be able to ensure that products are safe to use including buildings, planes, consumer products and equipment.

Education
If you want to be working as an engineer, you will have take mathematics and science as subjects in high school and then proceed with a college or university degree in one of the engineer related fields. The degrees normally take four years to get and further apprenticeship is required.

Qualifications
All engineers have to be licensed in their field since they are responsible for the design, development, testing and maintenance of equipment, buildings, structures, vehicles, components, software and work areas that need to be safe.

Employment
Engineering jobs can be found in almost any industry in developed countries. Although their services are always in demand, many become redundant during economic slow periods since new developments are then halted for a while.
