FAQ Home > Job Search > Credibility and Trustworthiness

What does being 'bonded' mean and what is the implication for job search?

Bonded is the term used for a person that is seen as trustworthy and reliable. It is a term used by employers to protect them against fraudulent acts of unreliable employees. People who work with finances or property need to be 'bonded', meaning that they should have a clean criminal record in terms of fraud, embezzlement, and theft. The term is not applicable to all types of jobs, only to positions where there are the potential of theft or fraud. If you are bondable, it means that you can be trusted with money and property, and that a reputable institution is willing to vouch for you. It is generally considered good for your job search if you are bondable.
