FAQ Home > Job Search > References

Must your previous employer answer questions about you?

The previous employer is under no obligation to answer any job search related questions. If you were fired for instance, he will not provide reasons or say that you have been fired. Most previous employers, do however, answer any reasonable questions such as years employed, position held, trustworthiness etc.
