1. That's an ambitious title. Can you give us an insight into your ideas?
I have spent over 30 years working for Fortune 500 companies in Sales and Marketing. My passion in corporate America was recruiting, training and developing college graduates. Several of my successful proteges encouraged me to pursue helping college graduates exclusively, thus I wrote two books, How To Get Your Dream Job In 60 Days for college graduates and 60 Days To Your Dream Job for everyone changing jobs and careers. The later publication will be released Fall of 2008. I also speak to college graduates on college campuses. 2. College graduates are in big demand, but they don't seem to get the careers that they want. What are the problems? College graduates spend 4 - 5 years in college earning their degrees, many of which earn a degree that does not direct them into a specific career path or desired industry. Therefore, graduates rely on fate, Divine intervention, or just shear lucky to land a job. Many graduates do not have a targeted plan to accomplish their employment goals, they just take the first job offered for pay. Then, ten years later they sit around wondering where is that Dream Job (or what happened to that Dream Job out of college, they wanted went.) On the cover of my book I stated that 90% of college graduates do not know how to get a job after they graduate. How To Get Your Dream Job In 60 Days provides a detailed step by step plan for college graduates to follow to make the right decisions to find their Dream Job. College graduates need to understand how to identifying what characteristics and qualities make them special in the market place and how to identify their personality type to assist them in finding the right career, industry and companies that they are compatible with. Currently 70% of the workforce 'HATES' their job. The personality information will assist them in avoiding becoming one of the 70%.
My personality program (target release date: Summer 2008) will solve many of these problems for job seekers. My books and seminars help individuals identify their personal needs as it pertains to their career endeavors and personal challenges attaining their Dream Job. I give them a clear outline of how to evaluate themselves based on their strengths and weaknesses. Then I help by matching them with their career, industry and companies. 4. What are the really big things to avoid in job search for graduates?
5. The Dream Job is always the one that seems the hardest to get. How do you grab the Dream? The college graduates need to make key decisions prior to their Dream Job search. By following my detailed step by step plan in How To Get Your Dream Job In 60 Days., I provide them with a timetable and action plan to follow. If they also utilize my personality information they will be able to eliminate the major problems in accomplishing their Dream Job. 6. Jobs and careers are often seen as being like growing a tree. You obviously don't approach like that. Why? A college graduate will be in the work force for 20-30 years, however, things have changed dramatically since my working days. In my career I could have worked for the same company my entire career, this is now the case in today's work place because corporation have changed their position regarding long term employees, pensions, benefits and retirement plans. Companies are more driven by cost cutting measures that impact employee longevity. College graduates need to make great choices and decisions about their careers. Graduating students need to evaluate their career options, prospective industries, and companies that offer them the kind of salary, benefits, and security that matches their lifestyle. Graduating college students need to start their retirement plan when they begin their careers not 10-20 years into their careers, to ensure their security for the future. They should plan for positive careers shifts by establishing realistic and attainable annual goals. Goals should be measured, reviewed, revised annually based on attainment or goal paradigm shifts. 7. The employee market isn't generally seen as sympathetic to dreams. How do you beat it, and keep your dream alive? If you develop a realistic and attainable career plan and do not get sidetrack by distractions and adopt the philosophy that you can 'never say die'. You will succeed. The key is to stay focused on short term and long term goals, and continue to develop your skills and talents which increase your value and contributions to a company. The working environment is very competitive, everyone wants to succeed, everyone thinks that they are the best at what they do, everyone thinks that they are the most deserving and qualified for a promotion. You must thrive to be the best that you can be, by improving your knowledge, talent and skills on a daily basis. You have to always look for the positive in everything you do. We are human and we all make mistakes. But the important thing is what did you learn from the mistake and how did you benefit from the experience. Your personality, life experience with people, talent, skills and your work background will successfully carry you through your career.
9. Some might see putting their dreams on the line as a personal risk. How do you deal with that? 'Nothing ventured, nothing gained' life is a risk. We all have to take chances to succeed. The key is to minimize your risk. You need to continuously evaluate the risk versus the reward of everything that you do. Some of us are natural risk-takers, others want the odds to always be in their favor and others are not willing to take any risk at all. You have to be confident in yourself to accomplish all of your Dream Job goals and willing to risk failure to succeed at everything that you do. 10. How would you relate your concepts to New Economy jobs and the current condition of the employment market? The concepts that I teach are fundamentally sound and time tested. One of my students would not make a career decision without talking to me first. He calls me to discuss very career move that he makes. He has become very successful, at present he is a National Sales Manager for Nike. Each college graduate has to package and should market themselves in a very favorable way to compete in the job market. The more you package and polish your skills, talents in your job search, you will accomplish all of your Dream Job career goals. More info on www.mydreamjobin60days.com |
