Check out the position, thoroughly, exactly like the preparation phase in Chapter 2. Just do it. Make sure you have the knowledge about the actual job, as well as the professional knowledge.

What do you need to know?
What are the additional requirements of the position?
Is there anything you don't understand, or that needs clarification? Ask, and do it before the interview. Someone will know the answers, and anyone in their right minds will be reassured you had the sense to ask.
Basic as that, and most people don't do it. The contact person is a potential gold mine of information other candidates won't use. It's quite normal for a contact person to get one phone call, and a hundred applications.
