Job Interview Targeted questions

These questions are directly related to specific situations and are thus straight to the point. The purpose of these questions is to establish answers on the following questions for the interviewer:

  • Are you able to perform the task this position requires?
  • Will your proficiency level, acquired knowledge and your individual characteristics enable you to perform the task set in the job description?
  • Can you do the job?
  • Do you have the knowledge sets, skill sets and personal attribute to allow you to do the job?

You can expect questions similar to the examples below:

  • Which part of your formal training will be pertinent to the job?
  • Why did you select education in the particular career field?
  • Give a relevant example were you had to relay factual data to numerous individuals.
  • Share a key accomplishment achieved in your career.
  • Give an example of project or task that had a timeframe in which it had to be completed.

Specify if the project was concluded successfully in a timely fashion. If the cut off date was not met, how will you approach the task to stay within the specific period allocated to the task?

The second set of questions is meant to establish whether you are a suitable candidate for the job; whether you would fit in and would be willing to obtain new skills to advance your career at the company. Your determination to succeed is also assessed.

Relevant questions in this category might comprise of the following:

  • Give a reason for your job application to this company.
  • Do you have any knowledge or background on the corporation, the industry and the operating procedures?
  • As an individual, share your personal vision and mission.
  • What long-term goals have you set for yourself and would you like to accomplish?

The next part of the interview will be to access if the candidate will form part of the team without causing disruptions to the current structure.

Questions that are relevant in this section could be:

  • Give an illustration of an actual situation where a task had to be performed and concluded successfully in conjunction with other people in the task team.
  • Elaborate on a situation where you formed part of a task team that had to attain the same objective.
  • Describe an instance where you formed part of a task team, your involvement and the result that was obtained.
  • In a specific situation of XYZ what will your contribution be?

To determine the most likely candidate for a position, and the justification of appointment the following questions can be asked:

  • Provide arguments as evidence for you being the superior candidate.
  • Give examples of your positive and negative traits.
  • describe yourself in less than six words.
  • Describe the strengths and expertise you will contribute if you are the successful candidate.

When asked for any comments, the candidate is given the opportunity to highlight expertise and unique skills which will set him or her apart from the other candidates. You get the opportunity to elaborate on your unique skills and experience.

Use the opportunity to deal with answer given during the interview process where you know you could have given a better answer and attempt to convince the interviewer why you are the best candidate.

Candidates are also given the opportunity to ask questions.
