1. Homeless Shelters
One of the best places that you can volunteer is a homeless shelter. Most cities will have some type of homeless shelter you can volunteer at. When volunteering at a homeless shelter, you could fulfill any number of roles. You might be able to help out in the kitchen and serve food to the homeless. You might help distribute clothing or other items to homeless people as well. Even if you only sit and talk with the people a little bit, it can make a big difference in their lives.
2. Ronald McDonald House
Another great opportunity for you to get involved with volunteer work is at the Ronald McDonald House. Most of the time, if you live in a large city, you should be able to find a Ronald McDonald House to volunteer at. The Ronald McDonald House is a project that is designed to help families that have children in the hospital. When children have to stay in a hospital for an extended period of time, the Ronald McDonald House is available to family members as a place to stay. This is often much less expensive than staying in a hotel. When you work there, you can serve food, help maintain the house, or visit with the family members.
3. Food Bank
Volunteering at a food bank can help make a significant difference in people's lives. When you work at a food bank, you will help collect food for those that are in need of it. You may have to sort the food and then help distribute it to the proper individuals.

Habitat for Humanity is a project that builds homes or remodels existing ones in order to provide homes to qualifying low-income people in need of them. With this project, you could potentially be doing anything that is construction related. You might be able to help put up the frame, install the drywall or work on the roof.
