How long does it take to get an electrical engineer degree?

Earning an electrical engineer degree is comparable to getting another type of engineering degree, except the focus is primarily on electrical processes and applications. While many electrical engineers settle for a two-year degree to work in entry-level electrical engineering careers, others go on to attain four years or more of education. In addition to general electrical engineering coursework, some electrical engineers go on to take classes in specialized electrical design and development. In some industries, particularly those that involve industrial electronics, working electrical engineers may also be required to earn special certifications to do the work they enjoy. These certifications require continuing education credits while the certification is active, a responsibility that is career-long.
