Networking is a job search tool that enables job seekers to make connections with potential employers and also others in the market for employment. The idea behind networking is to gain contacts and exposure in relatively casual settings. Some networking groups, for example, may meet for regular luncheons or other similar events. Networking also takes place in online settings. Networking may not result in immediate access to employment, but it can serve to grow an individual’s circle of contacts. This, in turn, can result in a larger number of people keeping an individual and his or her skills in mind when positions do open.
