Call. Call. Call. Everyday if you need. Let them your coordinator know you're there and ready for work. When you're called for your first assignment for the first time, try to take the job if you feel you can fulfill the job requirements. Then do a great job and work hard so that the client will give you a superb review when your coordinator asks for feedback.

Best times to call for last minute jobs:
Monday: 10 am
Friday: 3 pm
Other good times to call are between 10 am and 3 pm. Before and after that, they're nuts and your call may be more of an interruption than a help.
Become a face. Become a person to the people who place you. Send holiday cards. Cards from vacation spots. Don't always have your check mailed -- sometimes pick it up in person.

When you call in to see if there are any jobs, be friendly. Ask how they're doing.

Be responsible and dependable.

Be known as a quality worker. Get asked back by companies. (One company, if they like you, can keep you busy for months!) You get more jobs. More leverage. And service asks you for better and more jobs because they know you make them look good and that you're a valuable resource for them.

Thank your coordinators for the jobs they give you. Let them know when you really like a job.

Do them favors sometimes. This might be taking a last minute job or taking on a difficult client. But let them know you're helping them, and ask for something in return -- a certain position should it open up, more money, etc
