Teaching english in taiwan

The English teaching profession is by far the best option if you have experience, certification and at least a Bachelor's degree. Teaching positions in other subjects, have the same requirements. The following types of jobs are available:

Teaching at Private Language Schools

The two main Types of Jobs are teaching adults, and teaching children. When you teach adults, your hours will be from 6:30 to 10:00 in the mornings and then again in the evenings from 5:30 to 9:00. It leaves you with a lot of time for sight seeing and preparation. The classes focus on conversational skills and your students will include businessmen and college students. The schools that teach children require energetic persons with the ability to motivate young minds. You need a bit of singing skills, and a willingness to be involved in cultural activities. Classes start later in the morning and end early afternoon, or may start in the afternoon and end in the evening.

Universities, Colleges and High Schools

These institutions require at least a Bachelor's degree but prefer postgraduate qualifications and experience. Fluency in English is a must, and you will spend more time in preparation. The standard is high and you will work harder than at private language schools. The pay is average to good.

Private Companies

Many businesses hire foreigners for their in-house language training programs. Some of these training institutions are in rural areas and the employees have to stay at the location for periods of up to six months.

The main types of jobs available to foreigners are language related. The Taiwanese job market is very competitive but they lack English skills and the demand for teachers is higher than the supply.
