What does an A&P aircraft mechanic work on?

A&P aircraft mechanics, or aircraft and power plant mechanics, work on the various components of airplanes to assemble and repair them. This job is very important because it ensures that all airplanes that are manufactured and updated are safe for use by the military and consumer aircraft industries. Most often, A&P aircraft mechanics work on the airframe, which includes the plane body or fuselage, brakes, lines, tail assembly, oil and fuel tanks. In addition, A&P aircraft mechanics visually inspect all parts for damage, replace anything that is worn, and troubleshoot complete systems to make sure the plane is safe for flight. In many cases, A&P aircraft mechanics test systems fully, even in-flight, to make sure everything operates to full capacity and within federally mandated safety standards.
