What is a typical day at work like for a diesel mechanic?

In a typical day, a diesel mechanic's work involves diagnosing and fixing a number of problems with engines. The diesel mechanic may work on engines from semi trucks, tractors, smaller trucks and other equipment. The mechanic may work in the shop or could potentially have to go out on calls. A mechanic has to be flexible and also has to be able to communicate with customers in order to explain the problems that they find. The mechanic then has to provide an accurate estimate of repairs so that the customer can make a decision about what to do.
