Anne has applied for a job advertised in the local paper and was just thinking that she might just as well
grow old in front of the television as no one has come back to her yet. Then the phone rings.

Anne gets a screening interview over the phone and since she has her CV close by, she is able to answer

Preparing for the interview
The interviewer is already alarmed by Anne?s unprofessional behavior, but continues with the screening
interview. Since Anne doesn't have her CV close by, she is unable to give accurate dates and thus
leaves a poor impression on the interviewer. She doesn't get a formal interview.

The interviewer gets irritated and decides that Anne will take too long and chat too much to
get her work done.

The interviewer is impressed and decides that despite the gap in her employment history, Anne would be
hired since she clearly understands what the company is about and is willing to work towards
the good of the company.
Interview - Salary Negotiation
The interviewer decides not to hire Anne because she is clearly only committed to her own
goals and will use the company as a means to an end. The company wants someone who will be focused
on their needs, not her own.

The time has come to mention salary. The interviewer asks Anne how much does she expect.
She answers: Select "It depends on the salary scale in your company. What did you expect to offer for the ideal candidate with my experience?" Select "I need enough to pay my bills and make a decent income. I believe $10 an hour is reasonable."
The interviewer respects her answer and provides a rough number open for negotiation.
This gives Anne leverage to negotiate for better terms when the job offer is made.
Interview follow-up
Since Anne already indicated that she is willing to work for $10 an hour they decide to only
offer her $9 open for negotiation even though they really budgeted for $20 an hour.
She thus short changed herself by giving an exact number.

Anne goes home and waits for a phone call to inform her that she got the job, and decides to:

The interviewer is so impressed by the thank you note, since no one else bothered,
and decides to give Anne the job.
The call never came because the other candidate sent a thank you note, which impressed the interviewer.
It looks like Anne is still without a job.
