Job Search While on Unemployment
Of second importance, there is a need to find a new job! Unemployment benefits only last for so long and can take a while to get started. Letting the government know that you are searching is part of the requirements for maintaining the receipt of unemployment benefits in many areas. The government wants to know that you are looking hard to find a job nd change your life. You might be asked to submit proof where you have applied for jobs while on unemployment, or have to fill out special paperwork that will go in with your claim papers. When you begin to look for a job, it might be tough at first but after a few applications it becomes easier to do and almost automatic. If you begin a commission based job or start doing something on the side, this can affect your benefits and might cancel out what you are receiving. If you have made any attempt to make money, even if it means being resourceful and becoming self-employed in something small on the side, this can cost you your benefits. Keep this in mind and decide if the pursuit of a small venture is worth it. After finding a stationary job again, then you are free to do whatever you want. There are some exceptions. If the government can list a side job as such, then there are possibilities that you can continue your unemployment without issues. Carefully educating yourself on what is permitted before letting unemployment know what you have been doing on the side is important: sometimes simply the wording can change your eligibility. Be careful! You need to report all earnings, regardless, and let the unemployment office make the decision.
Sometimes you will be offered job courses or resume help while unemployed. Take it! If you can get help on your job search, why not? There are sources that can help you with your job search organization, resume, and cover letters. Ask if no one provides this information to you, and get the help you need to find a new job.
