What should you avoid when unemployed
If you find yourself unemployed, you will most likely start looking for work through the conventional methods of job seeking such as job boards, newspapers and putting resumes in at any place willing to take one. You will find yourself using what you have available to find some type of work; but, are you using all of what you have? Here are three things to avoid missing when you are looking for that next paycheck.
Not Making Use of Your Possessions
One of the few things that people consider in looking for work is using what you have around the house. Ideas and ways to find new work can be found all around you at home. Any of the following suggestions could lead into new income.
- The car - delivering newspapers, food, flowers, people or giving you a wider range to search for new employment
- Spare tools - lawnmowers and assorted hand tools can still make money today
- The computer - from telecommuting to telemarketing to online jobs
- The house - anything from part-time day care to virtual assistant can land here
- Yourself - private in home eldercare, pet sitting, or any type of private work where you simply need a body.
Not Selling the Entire Package
Another thing which people tend to overlook is the amount and range of expertise they have to offer a potential employer. When it comes to using what you have, knowledge is a huge item. Any one of the following jobs can be refocused into something else.
- Phone order taker - Customer Service, Appointment Setter, Receptionist
- Picker/Packer - Order Processing, Inventory Control, Warehouse Management
- Sales - Real Estate, Insurance, Medical or Industrial Sales, Auto Sales, Retail Sales
- Data Entry - Researcher, Data Processing, Data Entry, Virtual Assistant, Customer Service Rep.
Boxing Yourself In
When it comes to using what you have, don't limit yourself to what you once did at your old job. You have many skills and experiences which can aid you in finding new work if you simply think about them.
- Find any meaningful way to earn money - ingenuity and imagination have always provided people with a way to earn a living
- Look at your hobbies, interests and knowledge - you never know where that spare time knowledge will take you
- Make a use for yourself - if an employer can't find a use for you, create a use for them
- Always be ready for new ideas - each day brings new ideas and fresh experiences
While it is true that you should make full use of all the conventional methods available to you; you should also be using what you have in regards to finding and using any unconventional methods as well. You do not know what type of work just might appear to replace your old job. And if you are using any means necessary you are bound to find something interesting.
