Will I receive layoff notice before being laid off?
When you are laid off, an advanced notice makes the situation more tolerable because you have time to plan your income as you look for new work. However, not all companies can give you much advanced notice. Nevertheless, there are some laws in place that help your chances for getting notice before being laid off. If you work for a company with 100 employees or more, the company must give advanced notice to employees. The company is required to notify when 1/3 of the workforce or 500 employees (whichever group is smaller) are being laid off.
