Counter job promotion
To:
Electricals Supervisor
Job Description:
I work in a store where everyone stays on, and promotions are rare. I’d been there for a couple of years, and was as surprised as everyone else when the electricals supervisor job came up. Our boss, Mr. White, was grabbed by management when a vacancy came up, and his job was open. This happened so rarely that I had a vague idea that they promoted people on seniority. That wasn’t the case.
Mr. White came back and said “I want you all to try out for the job. We’re giving each of you a week in the position. Ask me if you have any problems.”
So the four of us all tried, and I was last. I really did the best I could, but I got so many difficult situations, all week. I’d never seen so many complaints. People had warranty problems, they had equipment that didn’t work, they wanted refunds, and some even had orders that didn’t show up. I was talking to Mr. White every day, and I learned a lot.
Came the interview, and I just told them what I’d done. Actually, it was odd, because I knew all the situations. Everyone else said it was a tough interview. The big boss, Mr. Armstrong, came and told me I’d got the job.
Mr. White had recommended me because I’d shown I could do the job at its toughest. The hardest week’s work I’ve ever done really paid off, and I know they appreciate my work, too.
