Title of Post:
How My Internship Became the Ideal Job
Job Description:
I had finally settled on my major and in my junior year of college, I started asking the career center what they thought I needed to do to get a good job right out of school. One of the counselors recommended that I try to find an internship over the summer and at least get some job experience under my belt. That summer I had a fabulous internship in IT and I even got paid for it! I did such a great job that they invited me to come back and help out more while on holiday breaks. As I was a couple months from graduating and helping out on spring break, I learned how to use a couple of programs that even my professors were not great at using. I gained valuable knowledge that I did not even get at school, and to top it off I did such a good job that on my last day there during break they invited me back as a full time employee after graduation. I accepted, and I am currently ranked up there with people who have been there about three to five years and making comparable pay too, instead of starting out with the knowledge and salary of a newbie. I would have never thought a summer internship would turn into such a great job prospect. I am glad I made those choices, and I love my job!

You did a number of things correctly and played your cards well. First, you recognised that you needed job experience in your field and asked someone for help in how to get it. Then, the internship was the method you chose. Internships provide great learning opportunities but also ways to network for future job prospects. It is important that performance during an internship be take seriously. You obviously did everything right and behaved well, or you would not have gotten a promotion. Good job!
