Job Description:
I do advertising as a side job in addition to my regular duties at the retail establishment I work for. There are businesses and small companies who contract me out for ad formulation, event organization, and such as I am also very good at PR. I just have a knack for it and was not ever formally trained, but I do well enough to make significant pocket money to hide away from my wife. One day I was bored at work and pulled out one of my side projects. I got lost in it over lunch and before I knew it lunch was over. My boss had come into my office and caught me. I got yelled at good and royal for working on non-company work at work. But then, he must have really looked at it during his yelling, because he stopped and told me it was good. Then, he said someone had gotten fired for bad work about a week before and our advertising department was looking for a replacement. I put together some examples and redid my resume, and my boss helped me get promoted. I start at the new office in less than a week, and I am so excited! Who would have thought a hobby would get me somewhere like this?

Okay, getting in trouble can be a good thing once in a while. In your case, it landed you a discussion with your boss that helped you find a better role for yourself within the company that you work for. Sometimes our bosses are so busy or become so used to the grind they forget other people are capable of certain things or do not recognise the skills you have. An accident of this nature can work out to one's advantage. Just try to not keep repeating it, as continued scoldings for working on external projects at work will eventually harm your career.
