I am thinking that your promotion was not something you were fighting hard for but came as a surprise to you. Often we work hard at a job that we do and the bosses do notice our performance [or lack thereof] and keep it in mind while deciding on future promotions. On that note, it is imperative to perform well at your job consistently if you think you might ever want a different role within the company you work for. Sometimes the promotion can come as a surprise, as yours did. Congrats!
